The 2010 Philadelphia
International Flowershow Winners of Best in Show Invitational and the Alfred M. Campbell Trophy
This year's Philadelphia Flower Show theme is “Passport to the World” and OuterSpaces has created a garden that rises to the occasion.
A 21st century Latin American Urban Oasis
The inspiration for this space comes from the work of Luis Barragan and Roberto Burle Marx who reinvented the International Style as a sophisticated , sensuous genre of Latin American modernism. Our garden is an exercise in creating romance and tranquility inside of a chaotic urban environment. The design is sensitive to today’s environmental concerns by using sustainable woods, living walls and roofing materials, a solar shade structure, and low volume water features.
The overall design concept of this exhibit:
To combine modern materials and landscape techniques with tropical plants to create a sensual oasis that can fit into virtually any urban environment.
The horticultural concept of this exhibit:
To show how plants can thrive inside of an urban environment and enhance valuable living space, by planting vertically we greatly increase plant density and help to cool the surroundings.
The message we want our viewers to take away:
With proper utilization of today’s building technologies a garden oasis can be created anywhere without putting a strain on the environments dwindling resources.
